Red and Black

My sister was in town this weekend for her birthday and we celebrated the only way we know how.  Eat. Drink. Shop. Repeat.

For the official birthday dinner, we went to Picca (steadily becoming one of my favorite newcomers to the scene) and I donned a new dress on super sale from LF Stores

Hello Lover

Valentine's Day.  The Bad: Booked Restaurants.  Mandatory prix fixe.  Cheesy Holiday.  Red and pink overload.  Disappointment.  The Good: Flowers. (Tulips are my favorite.)  Red lipstick.  Palm trees in February.  Love.  Great cards.

Jewelry: Kep, Michael Kors, Stella + Dot, Kate Spade.

Welcome to the Neighborhood

I have spent the majority of my LA years living off of La Brea (seriously, I have just moved up and down this street) because I love it.  It's perfectly central to the cheap and not-so-cheap nail shops, the fine dining and the hole-in-the-wall spots, the Beverly Center and boutique stores, the Westside and Downtown, Hollywood Hills and Ladera.

So, with the passing of time (and as I have watched traffic grow on this street), I have enjoyed welcoming the new joints to the neighborhood (Wirsthaus), saying goodbye to the ones that did not make it despite my support (Tar Pit and Campanile), and frequenting the standbys (Roscoes).

Over the last few months, it seems that there are even more spots opening up, Sycamore Kitchen being one that I have now visited a couple of times for breakfast.  The dishes have been hit (cinnamon brioche French toast) or miss (smoked salmon deviled eggs), but the experience has always been pleasant.

Additional benefit of living off La Brea - great street art.  Isabel Marant shoesClub Monaco Diana leggingsRebel Yell teeMadewell BlazerTory Burch sunglasses (old).

Weekend Chill

No blizzard, but LA cold (i.e., freezing) = overeating + drinking.

Italian deli and wine shop. Yes please.

Cured meats and great cheese.  Check.

Porto's Baked goods (overrated) and rain boots.  Why not.  Banana Republic boots. C-Wonder Scottie Dog Intarsia sweater. Seven Vintage skinny jeans. Gucci vintage purse.

Feed and Drink

One thing that LA does better than NYC (or anywhere else that I know of) is healthy fancy brunch, so...

This weekend, I ventured to Venice...

To have brunch with my favorite shopping and eating companion (unintentional coordinating outfits often a casualty)...Couture Compatriot's Fit: AG cigarette stilt jeans. Kate Spade flats. Bebe top. Chanel necklace. Chanel sunglasses.

At Feed, with a beautiful open juice bar and great acai bowls...but disappointing craft cocktails...

Which left me thirsty for something a bit more Old Fashioned.  Jcrew Blythe blouse.  Aqua harem pants. Chanel flats. Jcrew hat (old but similar here).
