Danke Schon

Danke Schon (thank you) for some wonderfully new experiences:

The St. Stephens Cathedral, inside (with a temporary artistic light installation) and out.

The food - the notables: cheese at the decadent Meierei in Stadtpark, the best soups and broths in the game, and some serious meat and potatoes in all forms (goulash photographed).

The museums: Mumok for some quick views of modern art.  But the real win was the Belvedere Palace with the Klimt paintings (no photos allowed inside).

The Schonbrunn Palace and all of its displays of the Habsburg monarchs (throughout 1,441 rooms, no big deal).

The Mozart Ensemble orchestra in the Mozart House, the oldest concert hall in Vienna where Mozart used to work, play and live!

Street Life

Vienna, like many European cities, is about walking..and more walking.  For me, it's the best way to get a sense of the hustle and bustle, the parks and gardens, and the buildings. Some highlights from my walks:

The Mozart statues (one of many).

The windy roads, ornate buildings, and streetlamps (whether modern or old and romantic).

Rooftop views (from the top of the St. Stephens Cathedral).

The canals at dusk.

The beautiful balconies and adorable storefronts.

Vienna

For my sister's 30th fete, we vacationed in Austria - Vienna, Salzburg and Alepndorf, all of which were amazing!  (Even more amazing was the fact that it was an escape from the NY cold.)

A beautiful apartment.  New and old buildings.  Classic Viennese cafes (where "coffee" is replaced with Keliner Brauners, Melanges, and Verlangerters).  Cobblestone roads.  Beautiful doorways.  Forty degree weather (oh, how everything is relative).
