Anchors Aweigh!

In the words of Sinatra, "my kind of town (Chicago is)..." - at least in the summer.

Prepare for week in Chi-town. Zara orange blazer, Jcrew tank, Rag & Bone mustard jeans, Miu Miu pumps. 

Arrive. Forego (overrated) deep dish pizza.  

Check in at Trump hotel (note Nespresso machine in room).

Admire porsche on way in to hotel.

Build bikes for kids (and immediately confirm quality control prior to children actually getting on bikes).

Take architectural boat tour. Appreciate historic buildings. Enjoy river in the summer (and recognize Chicago is not a miserable place, despite my three previous trips in the winter indicating so).

Summer Lovin'

Since the BFF has lived in DC for the past eight years, I have become decently familiar with the District and love the summers there - humidity and all.  This past weekend was the BFF’s 30th birthday bash and a bash it was!

Notable highlights:

Buy birthday flowers from street vendor.

Brunch at Hank’s Oyster Bar.  Shrimp and grits (not on specials menu) recommended.

Head to Georgetown for shopping... Zara pants, Mossimo wifebeater, Coach gold flats, vintage statement necklace and vintage scarf. 

...Accompanied by the BFF.  Pretty People vintage dress, Faryl Robin wedges, Laila Rowe clutch, H&M belt, Timex watch, (of)matter by Beth Coller necklace, vintage sunnies. 

Enjoy DC views.

 

Enter Off the Record Hotel Bar at Hay Adams for pre-bash cocktails.  Attend bash.

It's graduation season, so to celebrate all of the grads doing good for the world (and one especially dear to my heart who received her Masters in Special Education), I share with you an absolutely delightful dessert made by my amazing friend and favorite couture confectioner (accountant by day, Martha Stewart by night):

Drink with chai for complete sugar overload.  Ghirardelli Squares melted on Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, topped with M&Ms and decorating frosting.

Memorializing The OC...

With last weekend's Memorial Day came a birthday bash for a special friend at a beach house in Dana Point (special, in part, because she is pretty much the only reason I would venture to the OC).  It's not Kyoto but there is some green...from early morning color blocking to embracing the uni-color trend.
