Summer Shift

Summer is my favorite season (yes, we have seasons in LA).  Long days, warm nights, dry heat, sunshine and...shift dresses in the evening.

Vintage

There are some days when you are driving and something catches your eye.  For me, when that something is a vintage outfit in my favorite consignment shop, the natural thing to do is stop suddenly, park in a red zone, jump out in a disgusting post-workout state, run inside, try to pull the outfit off the manikin, finally ask for help with a crazed look of excitement, and buy it.

Ok, maybe that whole exchange had to do with the fact that vintage outfits like this are not usually my M.O., my raging headache resulting from an attempt to squeeze a week of working out into one day, or my generally over-worked and over-caffeinated state of mind but, whatever the cause, the casual and comfortable outfit was well-suited for a perfectly sunny Saturday brunching and day-drinking at...

Eveleigh, one of my favorite daytime stops on Sunset...

In part due to the fabulous cocktails...

...and the farm to table dishes, including in particular the avocado toast.

Windy City Whirlwind

Oh, the Windy City.  Classically American with much to offer.  Sometimes the best trips are those that are short and packed with activities (i.e., most of my trips).  This whirlwind of a trip was just that but its focus was eating and music...

Day 1: Ralph Lauren restaurant.  Beautiful bar.  Beautiful library.  Beautiful dinner.

Followed by jazz at the Green Mill.

Day 2: Back-to-back taste test between Al's Beef (winner for Chicago dog) and Portillo's (winner for Italian beef).  Disgusting and delicious.

Obligatory (the beau's first trip to Chicago) and still-engaging architectural tour.

Shopping on Miracle Mile.  Lots of miracles indeed.

Day 3: Coffee after run along Chicago River at our hotel, Hotel Palomar.

Attempt - and I do mean attempt because I did not make it more than a block - a bike ride.  Crowded Chicago streets + heavy mountain bike = death trap.  I should have known when they handed me a helmet instead of a bike with a basket.  Don't judge me.

After failed bike ride, deep-dish pizza from Lou Malnati's (beats previously tried Gino's East and Giordano's).  Ok, now judge me.

Zoom off in a cab to the airport before the storm really hits.

'Til next time, Chi-town!
